HOPE AND COMPASSION

Re-post from last August: One of the top things in my life right now is amazing friends, each with their unique opinion and story. Today I am pleased to welcome one of these friends, Steve Merki, as a guest writer. Check out Steve's review of his recent read.

WHO'S YOUR TIMOTHY?

Leonard Sweet is the most quote-able guy I know.

So I've been sharing some quotes from his book, "11 Indispensable Relationships You Can't Be Without". Here's one more....
"An old African proverb tells us about a band of elephants happily traversing the terrain when they suddenly come upon a raging river. The big elephants did not have a problem stepping into the rough, dangerous waters. However, the small young elephants in the group were afraid to take that first step.
Elephants are known for never forgetting. As the big elephants were "crossing over," one of the elephants in the middle of the river shouted to the front of the line, to those who had already crossed over, and said, "Brother leader, we have some folks still standing on the banks of the river who haven't made it into the water.
Brother leader didn't call a town meeting, or write a government grant, or seek any congressional legislation. These lead elephants turned around, got back into the water, and stood shoulder to shoulder, allowing their bodies to create a dam that parted the waters to allow those little elephants (and the more fearful adult elephants) to cross over on dry ground."
How many people who make it in life, who get to the other side, forget to remember? Or they refuse to take the time to turn around, get back into the water, and help Timothys cross over on to dry ground.

GOING TO CHURCH CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE!

STILLMEADOW MAY BE THE SAFEST PLACE IN YORK, PA

I like the simplicity of ideas - and the simplicity of the presentation in Dennis' book, "THE JESUS HABITS, EXERCISING THE SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES OF JESUS". Great as a devotional guide or sermon starter.

Now, I first read this classic some 20 years ago. So today's review was helpful to me.

"FINISHING WELL"

Another quote from Leonard Sweet's book "11 Indispensable Relationships You Can't Be Without"........

"The deeper I go into my spiritual life, and the more years I use up, the more important "finishing" and "finishing well" become. Disciples of Jesus are "finishers", sprinters who finish races, who "press toward the mark", toward "what lies ahead" and end up at the places to which they are summoned.

If there's no end to pursue, why undergo the journey in the first place? A journey without a destination is a vagrancy, not a voyage. And Jesus Himself said, "he who stands firm to the end will be saved."
