Books . . . most anyway . . . are organized according to Chapters.
Chapters help us make sense of the whole story, don’t they? They help us understand that all stories have
beginnings, middles and endings. When I
read, I usually read a book “a chapter at a time.”
Today concludes a chapter in the story of the Stillmeadow Church of the
Nazarene, York, PA. Let’s just call this
chapter: “The Lynch Years.” Today, Wayne and Carol head south to Virginia
and Caleb heads north to Massachusetts.
A chapter . . . a really good chapter I might add . . . of the
Stillmeadow story comes to a close. It
took 26 years to write. It was
Master-full, I might say!
This chapter began as a conversation with a church board in 1990. “I would be honored to become your
pastor. But one more thing, could you
hire Wayne Lynch to be our youth pastor?
We make a pretty good team!”
And they did. And we were.
And for 26 years Wayne and Carol (and eventually Caleb) loved and served
and loved us some more. And they will
continue that legacy among the good people of Virginia. I’m sure of that.
Just not here, not in York, not anymore, unless God of course boomerangs
them back, which happens from time to time.
But it’s not likely. Virginia’s “tracker
beam” is strong in the Virginian’s heart.
So church, there is another Stillmeadow chapter just waiting to be
written. It will undoubtedly be
different from previous chapters. But
better? Worse? Similar?
That remains to be seen, I suppose.
But I’m kinda leaning toward this:
the best Stillmeadow Chapters have yet to be written.
Come on friends. Let’s write it
together.
