ANOTHER STILLMEADOW FEATURE STORY

The Stillmeadow Crossings modular train group was started over six years ago by men that not only had a passion for model trains, but also for God-centered fellowship.

The guys build modular train layouts for display in venues around our community. These exquisite layouts feature multiple train tracks that surround miniature realistic buildings and parks that show life as it used to be. The guys are skilled modelers and have displayed at places like Columbia Historic Preservation Society, the Agricultural & Industrial Museum, Greenberg’s Great Train Show, Great Scale Model Train Collectors Show in Maryland, York Train Collectors Association (TCA) and for the last two years - The York Fair.

More sophisticated layouts are developed each year and currently they have a large 24 ft x 64 ft O scale layout and a smaller 12 ft x 16 ft HO scale layout. We set up a camera to capture the guys assembling the train platforms - something that has to be done each time they change venues. The video was edited to 32 times the original speed and a segment can be viewed at this link:  https://youtu.be/ntvHwxeSAj4.

Preparation is now underway for upcoming displays at Strausburg Railroad Museum of PA in August and York Fair in September. View last year’s York Fair display here: https://youtu.be/uprbUxh9aPs

Members of the group have helped each other during the good times and the bad. For example, several members of the group spent time weekly with Norm Laws before his passing and Norm became an honorary member of the group, enjoying their company. Check out a video showing Norm’s train layout featuring footage taken by Steve Voorhees and edited by Melody Ritchey Antioho. Click this link https://youtu.be/9Xylmx0sNRM

Co-leader Steve Voorhees says, “The trains provide a common interest and the guys get to do something they really enjoy. But the big thing is the fellowship they experience, especially as believers. The bottom line - it’s not just about the trains.”

Currently there are 22 guys in the group and according to group leader Rick Dodd, “We are always looking for new train buffs to join the fun and constantly on the lookout for places to display and run the trains. Also, we have a need for a permanent home if someone would have a large space available for us to use/rent cheap in the York, PA area.” If you'd like to join this group or want more information, contact Rick at Stillmeadowcrossing@yahoo.com
