Jesus said that one of the signs that the end was near is the people will grow cold in their love for God, and their love for one another. How can that happen? What causes one’s spiritual temperature to drop?
One day a pastor visited the home of a man who had become “un-warm” in His love for God and others. This happens sometimes when a person becomes disconnected from the church. The man had not attended the church in many months. The pastor simply walked over to the man’s fireplace, separated an ember from the fire and watched it slowly grow cold. Eventually, the ember went completely out.
The man smiled and said: "I get it pastor. See you next Sunday."
