OVERLY OPTIMISTIC?

DAY SIXTEEN    Welcome back to the continuing conversation between Jeb Bush and myself concerning the immigration wars. At this point, I am beginning to realize how important it is for every voter to understand this issue.

Jeb Bush concludes the first section of his book on immigration with the following quote:

"Fixing our nation's badly broken immigration system must be a top national priority. Getting immigration policy right will enable us to reclaim the prosperity that in recent years has eluded our grasp.

It will improve our competitiveness and dominant economic position in the world. It will help us preserve the safety net and generous system of services and benefits that otherwise will be unsustainable. It will help us make good on our cherished ideals and remain a beacon of opportunity to people the world over.

It will promote fidelity to the rule of law and help our nation become more secure. The proposals presented here are merely an outline for a path forward."

Do you think Bush is being overly optimistic, or do you think immigration reform will have that kind of affect on American life?
