LACK OF POLITICAL COURAGE

In preparation for the upcoming election, I am studying Jeb Bush's book "Immigration Wars: Forging an American solution."

DAY THREE     "On the proposition that we need to fundamentally repair our current immigration policy, a majority of Americans and their elected officials in both parties seem to agree.

And yet, comprehensive immigration reform stalls repeatedly. It stalled in 2007 and 2008 even when President George W Bush and congressional leadership from both parties made a major effort to enact bipartisan immigration reform. It never got off the ground following the 2008 election of President Barack Obama, despite Democratic majority in both congressional chambers and the fact that Obama promised to enact comprehensive immigration reform in his first year in office."

To what do you attribute this lack of political courage? Let me know by leaving a comment in the box below.

  1. Pastor Bud,
Simply stated, the politicians are making claims out of both sides of their mouth. They want the vote from those who are for it, immigration reform, and the votes from those who do not want it. In other words - they are making decisions and actions which will benefit themselves and not their constituents. Kind of like wanting your cake and eating it too!

  2. I think it is because of the compromise on annexing a few million people into the country that have been in this country "illegally" for years. They have been working, raising families and going to church. If we found and kicked out everyone who was here illegally, businesses would close. Restaurants, hotels and other businesses that provide jobs that Americans think they are too good to work would be vacant. This has been divisive among the parties and no one is willing to compromise on it. Jonathon Maloney

  3. this is one of the primary points that Jeb Bush makes in his book immigrants contribute significantly to our economy. And their removal would result in even further economic troubles.
