“I have been lots of places doing ministry since I was fifteen years old, but never ever have I worked with people like the Xtreme Xpress team. Last week I took a moment to watch them in ministry and suddenly realized that I could walk away and everything would continue without me. That’s an incredible answer to my prayer.”
These were Chastity Frederick’s
words to the Xtreme Xpress Ministry
team – just before they left the church last Saturday en
route to York City’s Parkway neighborhood. As the team was leaving she said,
“We have this moment to serve. Don’t worry about doing anything fancy – just be
Jesus to the kids today.”
Every Saturday Jade and Chastity Frederick and a special
group of about 10-14 volunteers take buses into York City to minister to kids,
share a Bible story and lesson - and in a very tangible way simply show the kids
God's love.
When they arrive, helping hands from the team and smiling
kids unpack the buses. Tables are put in place, brown bags are filled with
lunches and the grill is lit to make hotdogs. While the kids are registering
they are given freeze pops before they pile into the buses. Little Littles,
Middle Littles, and Big Kids all know where to go, and the Big Kids are greeted
with clipboards and word searches when they enter the chariot!

Whitney Leppo’s experience…..
“I've always wanted to
help with this ministry but never got out of my comfort zone. A few weeks ago,
my husband Tyler and I pull up at the church and Jade Frederick says jokingly
"Hey guys! Want to help out?" We didn't have any other plans that day
so we said why not?
When we got onto the
bus one of the helpers, Joy
Strausbaugh, looked at us and said "You guys are an answer to
prayer." I looked at her puzzled and thought, “what could she be talking
about?” She replied, “Chastity just asked if we had any prayer requests and I
had just prayed that someone will come along
and help with the hot dogs today – and help with the kids.
I stood there shocked
as I realize that this was all God. She prayed and we showed up. God led us
there that day. It's such an amazing thing when you see Gods work in action. He
pushed us out of our comfort zone because He knew we wouldn't have just done
it. Isn't that awesome? It was a great experience and Tyler and I have
decided to become regular helpers on Sat mornings. God is good!”
Check out this brief video showing the team in action last Saturday. The team changes weekly, so thanks
also to those not shown in the video.
