"What is the purpose of a peach?" This question was posed by Jeff Callender to the small group that meets on Sunday mornings in Grace Chapel.
"Does a peach exist for a purpose - more than just to hang on a tree?" After a brief discussion, the conclusion by the group was that the fruit is not for the tree, but for others. And the peach also provides seed for the next generation.
Francis Chan asked a related question in the video that was played during the class, "Why do we want the Holy Spirit?" Is it just to get power and gifts so we can build up ourselves, or do we want to build up the church and other believers? Jeff said our motive in desiring the Holy Spirit should be "for the common good", that is, to love others and allow the Holy Spirit to use us to draw them to Christ. (planting seeds)
This is a really interesting video driven study, and it reinforces my current sermon series "The Celebration of Pentecost - Celebrating the Work of the Holy Spirit." Next week (May 15th) the class will discuss Chapter 5 "A Real Relationship". Here's how the chapter begins.....
"There's nothing better than being absolutely sure that the most powerful Being in the universe adores you as His own child. This is precisely the confidence the Holy Spirit offers us."You are welcome to join this group on Sunday mornings @ 9:15 am in Grace Chapel.
