This Scripture is a gold mine of affirmations. Here we are told who we are in Christ. These statements can shape our very identity if we accept them as truth. According to Paul, those who are “in Christ”:
- Are under no condemnation – Romans 8:1
- Live in accordance with the Spirit – Romans 8:6
- Are controlled by the Spirit. – Romans 8:8
- Have received the Spirit of Sonship – Romans 8:15
- Have the witness of the Spirit. – Romans 8:16
And then there’s Romans 8:28! Here Paul is very clear that those who are in Christ have the assurance that no matter what happens to them, they can know that God is going to work it together for their ultimate good.
J. I. Paher wrote:“Our God is a God who not merely restores, but takes up our mistakes and follies in His plans for us and brings good out of them.”
Remember . . . Paul did say all things, didn’t he?
The Old Testament story of Joseph confirms this affirmation. Remember what Joseph said to his brothers the very ones who had betrayed him and sold him into slavery?
“Do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you . . . Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done.” (Genesis 45:5; 50:19-20)
See? All things. Those who are in Christ have this blessed assurance:
“To the child of God, there is no such thing as an accident. He travels an appointed way.” – A.W. Tozer
