Most people who cross borders illegally do so voluntarily. But not all.
Tragically, there also exist a significant number of persons whose undocumented migration takes place against their own wishes. According to the US government, there are between 800,000 and 1 million victims of human trafficking every year. Some are simply kidnapped often with the complicity of relatives who profit from the transaction. More commonly though victims are duped with misleading information.
